Implemented by: Rotary Club of India
Location: Sundarbans
This project aims to preserve the mangroves in the Sundarbans, India, by providing alternative livelihoods to reduce anthropogenic pressure. It includes embankment shoring using coconut palms and Nypa fruiticans, establishing apiaries for 150 families, and managing plastic pollution through shredding and recycling. These initiatives will economically empower marginalized women, create sustainable income sources, and protect the fragile ecosystem from storm surges and illegal activities.
The project addresses critical community needs by offering employment, enhancing embankment protection, restoring local biodiversity, and promoting sustainable use of mangrove resources. It also solves the plastic pollution problem, ensuring a cleaner environment and improved quality of life for the community.
