Gulam Vahanvaty

RF(I) Chair

Gulam Vahanvaty joined his family’s scrap processing and ship-breaking business and later diversified into other enterprises. In 1978, Vahanvaty travelled to Indiana (then District 656) as a member of a Group Study Exchange, which he describes as “a life-enhancing experience” that made him want to join Rotary.

A Rotarian since 1979, he oversaw a record contribution to The Rotary Foundation of $654,000 as district governor, the largest in Indian Rotary districts until 2006–07. He has served RI as Rotary Regional Foundation Coordinator, committee chair and member, and training leader. Vahanvaty is a recipient of RI’s Service Above Self Award.

A Doctor by profession, an Entrepreneur by nature, an adventurer by passion, and a Rotary leader by achievement, RI Director-elect Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi presents a unique fusion of capabilities and talents. He was invited to join the Rotary Club of Pune Sports City in 1995 and served as District Governor of RI Dist.3130 in 2005-06.

He is a deserving recipient of Rotary’s ‘Service above self-Award,’ TRF’s Citation of Meritorious Service,’ and the ‘Polio Plus Appreciation Award.’ Dr. Mahesh is a staunch supporter and Benefactor of the Rotary Foundation. It has been a long and eventful journey, and Dr. Mahesh Kotbagi will now serve on Rotary International’s Board of Directors for 2021-23.

RI Director

T.N. “Raju” Subramanian joined Rotary in 1987 as a charter member of his club. He has served RI as a member of the Election Review Committee, the Constitution and Bylaws Committee, and the Council on Legislation Organizing Committee.

Subramanian also served as Rotary Institute chair, training and support training leader, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, and director of the Rotary Fellowship for past district governors. His two most challenging Rotary roles were serving as training leader and vice chair of the 2022 Council on Legislation when he had to lead the meeting after the chair fell ill with COVID-19.

Anirudha Roy Chowdhury

Anirudha joined Rotary in 1994 as a Charter Member, served the club in all positions, and was President in 2000-2001 adjudged as Best President. He became the District Governor in 2007-08 and happened to be the last Governor of United Rotary District 3290, with 187 clubs in India and Nepal with a membership base 6,000.

Anirudha has served in various capacities in the district, including as the District Foundation Chair. He has also served as Assistant Rotary Coordinator for Membership and Public Image and Regional Coordinator for Rotary’s Public Image and the Rotary Foundation for six years. He has served as the RI President’s representative five times.

Sanghvi joined Rotary in 1991 and has served RI as a training leader, Chair-Rotary Institute, RI committee member, president’s representative, and numerous other capacities. He helped establish 28 vocational training centers for women and coordinated 11 polio corrective surgery camps that treated thousands of patients.

Sanghvi says one of his proudest achievements was leading a Rotary initiative that helped 200 Pakistani children get heart surgeries in India. Sanghvi has received the Service Above Self Award and The Rotary Foundation’s Citation for Meritorious Service and Distinguished Service Award. He and his wife, Sonal, also a Rotarian, are Major Donors and Bequest Society Members.

Rajendra K. Saboo is Chairman of Saboo Business Group, which includes Kamla Dials and Devices Limited. He has served Rotary International in many capacities, and to name a few of his formal positions, he has been District Governor, Chairman and member of various R.I. Committees in different years, International Assembly Discussion Leader, R.I. Director, R.I. President, Chairman of The Rotary Foundation Trustees and Trustee of The Rotary Foundation.

He is also a member of the Managing Committee of the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI). The President of India conferred the Padma Shri Award upon Mr. Saboo in March 2006.

Kalyan-Banerjee

He has been marshaling his energies for Rotary since 1972, when he joined the fledgling club in his hometown of Vapi, India. Under Banerjee’s leadership, United Phosphorous Limited blossomed into the largest agrochemical manufacturer in India. Vapi, due in no small part to the work of the local Rotary club, has been transformed from a sleepy village into a major industrial center in Gujarat State.

Banerjee has served Rotary as a district governor, president’s representative, committee and task force chair, Rotary Foundation trustee, and director. He also has been a member of the International PolioPlus Committee. Almost to his amazement, Banerjee is the organization’s 101st president and the third from India.

Shekhar-Mehta

Shekhar Mehta is a Chartered Accountant and chair of the Skyline Group, a real estate development company. He has served Rotary as a committee and task force member, resource group zone coordinator, training leader, and district Rotary Foundation committee chair. Shekhar has received the RI Service Above Self Award and the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award.

Shekhar has also helped establish hospitals in Bhubaneswar, Hooghly, and Kolkata, and he chairs the Saving Little Hearts charity, which has facilitated nearly 2000 heart surgeries for children. He has served Rotary as a committee and task force member, resource group zone coordinator, training leader, and district Rotary Foundation committee chair. Shekhar has received the RI Service Above Self Award and the Foundation’s Distinguished Service Award.

Barry Rassin is a director and former president of Doctors Hospital Health System in Nassau, Bahamas, where he retired after a 38-year career. He was the first fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives in the Bahamas. The Bahamas Ministry of Health and the Pan American Health Organization honored him with the National Award of Health Hero.

Mark Daniel Maloney is a principal at Blackburn, Maloney, and Schuppert, LLC, a law firm focusing on taxation, estate planning, and agricultural law. He represents large farming operations in the Southeastern and Midwestern United States and has chaired the American Bar Association’s Committee on Agriculture in the Section of Taxation.

He is a member of the American Bar Association, Alabama State Bar Association, and the Alabama Law Institute and is a past president of the Morgan County Bar Association. A Rotarian since 1980, he has served as an RI director, Foundation trustee, and vice chair and aide to 2003-04 RI President Jonathan Majiyagbe. He also has participated in the Council on Legislation as chair, vice chair, parliamentarian, and trainer.

Bharat Pandya joined Rotary in 1989 as a charter member of his club. During his year as governor of District 3140, his district contributed over $2 million to The Rotary Foundation, making it the top contributor worldwide for 2006-07. He has led numerous projects, including water and sanitation projects funded by Foundation grants that installed check dams so that villagers no longer needed to walk up to 4 miles daily to collect water.

Pandya has held many roles in Rotary, including regional RI membership coordinator, training leader, and member of Rotary’s Membership and Convention Promotion committees and the India PolioPlus Committee.

Ashok M. Mahajan is a senior partner in Raj Industries, a firm he founded in 1973. He is a Punjab Kesari Club and Council for Fair Business Practice member and has served on the Civil Defense Advisory Committee in Maharashtra.

Ashok joined the Rotary Club of Mulund in 1973. He has served RI as a director and task force committee member and was also at the 2001-02 India Presidential PolioPlus Summit. He is a member of the International PolioPlus Committee. He was also a member of the National Committee for almost ten years and now is the Chairman of Rotary’s Ulema Council in India.

P.T.P. is the managing director of P.T. Power Gear (P) Ltd., engaged in systems engineering and marketing of Siemens switch gears, motors, and programmable logic controllers. He is the founder and project chair of a blood bank in Chennai that Rotarians support.

A Rotarian since 1983, P.T.P. has served RI as RI training leader, regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, committee and task force member, RI president’s representative, and district governor.

Basker Chockalingam holds degrees in Commerce and Law from the prestigious University of Madras, where he was bestowed with the Rt—Hon’ble Madhavan Nair Award for the best overall performance in law. A Rotarian since 1988, Basker is a member of the Rotary Club of Karur RI District 3000, the second-largest Rotary club in India.

He is also the managing trustee of the Karur Rotary Club Trust, which he founded in 1991-92. Basker was unanimously elected District Governor R I District 3000 from 2000 – 2001. He was the Chairman of the Rotary Institute 2013 held in Singapore and Rotary Coordinator for Zone V for 2013 -16.

Manoj Desai is a spinal surgeon at his medical facility, Arpan Spine & Fracture Clinic. He is a life member of the Indian Medical Association, Spine Surgeons Association of India, and the Indian Orthopedic Association.

A Rotarian since 1986, Desai has served Rotary as regional Rotary Foundation coordinator, regional Rotary membership coordinator, task force and committee member, RI training leader, Annual Programs Fund strategic adviser, regional RI membership coordinator, and district governor. Desai and his wife, Sharmishtha, are major donors, benefactors, Paul Harris Fellows, and Bequest Society of The Rotary Foundation members.

A. S. Venkatesh

Venkatesh graduated with an engineering degree from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras and earned his master’s in business administration at the Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad. He has been a Builders’ Association of India member since 1998.

Venkatesh, whose Rotary call name is Venky, has served RI in roles that include International Assembly training leader, Rotary coordinator, and lead trainer of Rotary coordinators at the Regional Leaders Training Institute for three years. Venkatesh has also been active as director of the Rotary Action Group for Family Health and AIDS Prevention and the Rotary Action Group for Community Economic Development.

K.P. Nagesh is an Indian social activist, educator, and self-made businessman from the Ramanagara District of Karnataka. In 1988, after earning his degree in mechanical engineering, he enlisted in the Indian Air Force as a commission officer for short service.

When Nagesh was Rotary International District 3190’s District Governor in 2015–16, he broke records for membership growth, the increase of women and youth members, and donations to the Rotary Foundation. Thanks to his leadership, he is now the world’s best-performing district governor. His expertise was acknowledged by Rotary International, which named him the Endowment and Major Gifts Advisor for 2017–18, as well as the Assistant Regional Rotary Foundation Coordinator (ARRFC) for 2016–17.

A Rotaractor at 16, MMM joined Rotary. Since joining Rotary, he has lived the motto “Service Above Self.” He founded a disabled center as a young, eager Rotaractor. At 19, he petitioned Sri. Rajaram IAS, Tiruchirappalli District Collector, to build a water tank and bridge to a rural hamlet near Trichy.

The district collector instantly accepted the request and took action after seeing the young man’s attitude. Rotary International, USA named him ‘Outstanding DRR in the World’. Served as District Rotaract Committee Chairman in 2010-11. He helped organize the Rotary Club of Trichy BHEL City and served as organize President.

Shakuntala Raha, has been working with Rotary International South Asia Office for over 14 years now and is currently Head of The Rotary Foundation, RI South Asia Office. She is also Secretary to Rotary Foundation (India), the Associate Foundation.
She supports Rotary Senior leaders and ensures high quality service to Rotary stakeholders. She is an alumni of Delhi School of Economics and has been engaged in Developmental sector for over 25 years now. She has worked extensively with Multi-lateral institutions, Ministries and not-for-profit sector. Prior to joining Rotary she was working with Usha Martin Limited as Head, CSR Team. She is a member of RC Delhi South Metropolitan and a past President
Ganesh venkatakrishnan

Ganesh joined RISAO in May 2022. Ganesh has over 24 years of experience in International Not for Profit sector. Ganesh is a postgraduate from National Institute of Business Studies majoring in Finance with First class distinction and graduated from Delhi University.
Ganesh began his career in the Not-for-Profit Sector with Habitat for Humanity International and subsequently has worked with many INGOs like Panos International, DFID and also with Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD). He has a proven record of establishing internal control system and proficiency in areas of Financial Monitoring, Grant Management, Donor relationship, Internal Audit, Budgeting, drawing up contracts/ MoUs for project partners and ensuring Compliance for Audit. At RISAO, he is responsible for effectively supervising the Financial Services team to provide quality financial controls and services for fiscal functions to the Rotary constituents. He controls all aspects of financial operations of RISAO & Rotary Foundation (India) {RF(I)} and related statutory financial compliances. He also serves as the Hon. Treasurer of Rotary Foundation (India) – the associate Foundation of TRF and is a member of the Rotary Club of Delhi -Genesis, New Delhi.
