Pledges to support Government of India in achieving total literacy by 2025

New Delhi, XX June 2020: With an aim to support disadvantaged sections and ensure children do not miss out on quality education due to the unprecedented COVID-19 situation, Rotary in India is organizing a virtual event “Chhoti Si Asha” on 28th June 2020 in collaboration with Wizcraft International. 

Through the event, Rotary members aim to raise more than 30 crores to support literacy and nutrition initiatives in India.

Lead by Rotary Club of Bombay, Chhoti Si Asha will bring together celebrities, artists and performers like Amitabh Bachchan, AR Rahman, Salman Khan, Kareena Kapoor, Sonu Nigam  to advance Rotary’s work around communities impacted by COVID-19.

The projects with key focus on nutrition, literacy, WASH, preventive and curative healthcare, and climate change initiatives, will be showcased during the event to motivate viewers to contribute in making the world a better place for all.  

The Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) aims to achieve Total literacy and Quality Education in India through its comprehensive program “T-E-A-C-H” where T stands for Teacher Support, E for E-learning, A for Adult Literacy, C for Child Development and H for Happy Schools. Each of these components have a specific focus and it is interlinked with each other in achieving the common goal of bringing total literacy and improving learning outcomes among students in various parts of the country.


In this regard, Rotary has signed an MoU with NCERT to provide support to the Government of India in making high quality e-content accessible to teachers and students from classes 1 to 12 for all subjects. Rotary plans to provide it free of cost, as a home-based teaching solution related to their school curriculum. 

Mr. Shekhar Mehta, president-nominee, Rotary International 2021-22, said,  “Rotary has a vast experience in E-Learning, having installed E-Learning software/hardware to over 30,000 Govt. schools across India, in the last five years. In its 100th year in India, Rotary is committed to support Govt of India in their endeavour to achieve total literacy by 2025.” 

The content will be developed basis NCERT & CBSE curriculum and the same to be broadcasted through all the NCERT TV Channels across the nation. Additionally, Rotary will provide material for special needs children as well as contribute its entirety to the Adult Literacy Mission.
